My article pretty much displayed what we have been talking about in class. Technology should be a big part in math education. It is a big influence on students and their learning. Students can use computers for certain math processes instead of always using pencil and paper. In the article, a lesson was geared towards credit cards and finances, which are things that many students will have to face later on down the road. This activity lead into the students using spreadsheets on the computer to keep track of finances. When students displayed their spreadsheets on the computer, their information could be displayed on a Smartboard. To make figuring out the finances quicker, students also used calculators to figure out the totals. All of this put together really let students ask their own questions and do a lot of thinking.
Oh only if I had more technology in my classroom. I think chose this article because even though the concepts they mentioned were more secondary education, I think this is some that can be used in the upper elementary grades. I think it would be a fun activity where a store can be set up and the students would be the shoppers. They would be in charge of keeping track of their finances. Kids love money.
